Many credit unions have extended their investment portfolios to include securities backed by mortgages. These mortgages have various features that need to be analyzed in order to obtain a true valuation. There are other particular attributes to these securities that should be known as well. We will discuss those features that should be known before you buy your next mortgage backed bond.

Kevin is responsible for managing several investment portfolios through the CUSO’s Investment Advisory service. In addition, he drives Balance Sheet Solutions’ Share Sensitivity Analysis product, which evaluates the rate sensitivity of credit unions’ share deposit balances. Kevin also assists credit unions in designing and implementing successful balance sheet strategies.
Prior to this, Kevin was an asset-backed securities trader with Robert W. Baird & Co. Previously he was Vice President, Investments at Wisconsin Corporate Central Credit Union.
He holds his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Accounting from St. Norbert College. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, is a CFA Charter Holder, and is a member of The CFA Society of Milwaukee, and the CFA Institute. Kevin was also a grader for the CFA exam. In addition, he holds his Series 7 and 66.

| Loan Participations - Avoid NCUA Pitfalls |
Recent “Hot topics” mentioned by the NCUA include member business lending and evaluating third party relationships. We will discuss several key focus points of underwriting such as cash flow analysis, acceptable loan write-ups, and understanding business and concentration risk. In addition, we will give you some key points to consider in evaluating your third party relationships as well as some market trends and how the recent capital market environment has affected loan participations.

Tim joined Members United in April 2007. As Vice President, Loan Participations, Tim is responsible for the development and growth of Members United’s loan participation product line. He also acts as a resource for credit unions wanting to assess their liquidity options.
Previously, Tim worked for M&T Bank as Administrative Vice President, Commercial Lending. He has over 22 years of lending experience including corporate, commercial real estate, syndications, and consumer as well as residential lending.
Tim is Chairman of the University at Albany School of Business Advisory Council, a board member of the American Red Cross, and currently serves as its Treasurer. In addition, he is a board member and Treasurer of the New York State Trooper Foundation, serves on the Investment Committee of Statewide Zone Capital Corp., and is President of the Bethlehem Babe Ruth and the Bethlehem Youth Basketball. He is past board member of the YMCA of Albany, and past Vice President and board member of the Tri Village Little League.
Tim has his B.S. in Accounting from St. John Fisher College.
